Jeremy got commissioned last week. Very very happy for him, since I understand how it feels to have gone through rubbish each week and finally emerging and successfully completing a tough course. All men go through this phase, a time where you will really be put down, broken and moulded into a fighting being. That is the army for you. To christians like us, it is one of the places where your faith will be SORELY tested to the max. It is this period of time where the people who know HIM should really be encouraging him. Do not assume that HE will be fine when he gets enlisted and don't even bother to call him up to encourage him. I have seen so many christians falling away from God because no one bothered... I find it sad. A soul that got saved got lost again.
My BMT time was not a bed of roses. Frankly, it was tough, having to adjust to regimentation. I wouldn't have pulled through if it was not for my family and a FEW friends and members who bothered to call up. Thanks go to you guys... Also, my personal faith in God also helped me pull through.
Here are some tips I can provide for those who are enlisting:
1) Continue to do your QT!
Doesn't mean that you are busy training means you have no time to do QT. There will always be time to do so, so grab hold of that opportunity to do your QT. IT helps, reading the Word of God and after that seeking the Lord. I remember that I would cry out to God for strength during those times, with a pillow on my face.. =)
2) Learn to trust God.
Learn to trust the Lord for strength and believe that HE will bring you through the tough time. The bible says to Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding... Don't think that you are a tough nut that can pull through by yourself. God is there for you. Learn to trust and lean upon Him for help.
3) Crucify your flesh.
Why do I say that? The army is a very carnal place. Every moment you will hear vulgarities and other explicit material flying around. You will be tempted to do the same, so learn how to discipline yourself and resist the temptations.
I don't have much to say anymore, and anyway my brain can't really think in the morning. I dunno who will read this, but I pray that you will be blessed reading it. Out.
